Mama Got a Brand New Toy

I sold a bunch of stuff on ebay and bought myself a brand-spanking-new 3GS. Isn’t she pretty? I just got her last week and I haven’t come up with a name yet. Now I just need to get a job to pay for the dang service. We went from having the cheapest crappy cell phone plan in existence to the Jaguar of phones and plans. That’s a shocker to the ol’ pocket book. I’m still waiting for my purple case to arrive. I’m terrified I’m going to drop it or it’s going to fall out of my purse or one of the kids are going to get ahold of it. Since I showed Arwyn some of the cool stuff it can do while waiting at the lab the other day, she wants to get her little paws all over it. If anybody knows of any apps that I just have to have, lemme know in the comments!
I Heart Boden

Even though I’ve been trying not to buy new clothes until I am a bit unheftier, I decided that at the rate the remainder of my “baby weight” is coming off (roughly half a pound every month or two) I could be walking around naked by the time I get back into most of the clothes hanging in my closet. And nothing cures the blues like a little on-line shopping in your pj’s. Except maybe for chocolate, but that would set me back 6 months or so and we’re down to the “bad chocolate” that nobody wants to eat but I can’t bring myself to throw out. I’d recently received a mini boden catalog in the mail and while I loved everything in it, I had a hard time justifying the cost of those adorable little tees and dresses, considering my daughters have overflowing closets, tend to stain things (gee, who did they get that from?), and have a generous grandmother who loves to shop for them. What I really want is the kids clothes in adult sizes. At what age do we start dressing so blandly? Is there a cut-off age for big flower appliques on our shirts? I think we’d all be a lot happier if we walked around in bright pinks, sunshine yellows and aquamarine blues. Enough of those boring grays and browns (says the SAHM who’s worn a combo of black & gray every day this week but hates this fact).

I logged on to the boden site and started clicking away. I was a little unsure about the sizing, but the shirt fits just fine. It’s quite soft and comfy. I even love their mailing envelopes. Springy green with polka dots! What’s not to love? Several items I would have liked to purchase were back-ordered for many weeks, but if you are patient (unlike me) you’d get a nice surprise in the mail that you probably forgot about by the time it arrived.
I am now the proud owner of a super-soft shirt mailed to me from England, which makes it that much better. I bet the Queen even touched it or kissed it or blessed it or something. Don’t ya think?

I somehow managed to grab these up on a quick race through Target with both kiddos along. The plate isn’t microwave safe, which I try to avoid, but it had to match the mug, right? I’m picturing soup in the mug + sandwich on the plate. These suckers are difficult to photograph, that’s fo sho. Very shiny. Now, I need the tablecloth. And maybe a canister. And an apron. But that’s IT.
Pink Hat

This is my new pink hat that I got for $1 on clearance at Target. You gotta love Target clearance, or “Clarence” as we say around here. I’m wearing this hat today because 1) it is too damn cold to be motivated to take off my warm fuzzy sweats and take a shower, 2) my hair just ain’t gonna look right and 3) I feel like it.
Reading and Writing

Aunt Banana was here for the day on Monday and we ventured out to the teacher supply store and a thrift store. I am mad about drawing pads and tablets lately. I picked up a handwriting tablet for Arwyn to practice writing her letters. I also snagged that Melissa & Doug doodle pad for 99 cents and a paint-by-number kit that I have squirreled away for later. We can never seem to have too many paper pads for little people to create their masterpieces.
We came home with a Hello Kitty cover from the thrift store (already washed and put to use inside Arwyn’s “tent” in her bedroom) and this giant stack of books. I could have gotten more books, but I tried to reign myself in and put a few back. The shelves were overflowing with wonderful finds, but you had to dig through a lot of piles and my arms were tired and the baby was hungry, so we had to go. It was worth it for the Richard Scarry activity book alone.

The Party Tent has been erected (thanks to Super Bubby). We’ll light a few million citronella candles to keep the skeeters away and have a frosty beverage. Come on over!
Dude, Where’s My Car?

A few weeks ago I officially became a “Mom That Drives a Mini-Van”, something I had hoped to avoid but nonetheless have recently found necessary to making my life just a little bit easier. After numerous fits and starts, false alarms and tiring trips to the car lot, we found an older, smaller van that had very low miles and decided to take the plunge, the push that finally put us over the edge into “We Cannot Possibly Call Ourselves Young or Hip Any Longer” Land. I like to think of it as more of a large station wagon. Somehow, that makes it just a teeny bit easier to swallow.
Here it is, in all it’s shining new-to-us car glory:
This purchase meant that we finally retired the 1991 Beretta that poor, poor Bubby had been driving to work. Bubby’s cousin, apparently desperate for anything with wheels that would run, took it off our hands and that two hundred dollars disappeared faster than you can say “formula and doctor’s visit”.
Now all I need is a My Kid Can Beat Up Your Honor Student bumper sticker.
Summer Shopping

I thought I would share a few of the fun purchases I’ve made over the past few months. Online shopping is so fun, isn’t it? Etsy is completely addicting. I need to get some things in my own shop to offset my little shopping habit. You can find so many wonderful things there, vintage or hand crafted, two of my favorite characteristics.
This is a letterpress piece that I had custom made at 12fifteen. Her work is lovely and she is very accommodating. I saw a design on some of her coasters that I really liked and asked her to make a larger size that I could frame. I plan on hanging this in our new bedroom some day.
I found just jenn designs via Cool Mom Picks. I have found a ton of cool things through their site, plus they have a lot of giveaways as well. I ordered these cute circus themed notepads for the girls and couldn’t resist adding a smaller notepad for myself. These would make a fabulous gift for a young (or young at heart) person in your life. I have no idea why a four year old and seven week old need their own stationery (thank you notes? letters to Grandma?), but I have always been a sucker for personalized items. I don’t see that particular vice ending anytime soon.
I found this wonderful site via the chicken. They sell a variety of art supplies, cards and toys, all of them eco-friendly and so cute. I’m saving these for a particularly rough day or special occasion. New art supplies always brightens up the day, right?
This last one is a total 80′s throwback. When I saw the folder on the shelf in the school supplies aisle, I really couldn’t leave the store without it. I had a purple Trapper Keeper in the fourth grade that I loved. Why don’t they make Trapper Keepers anymore? On the first day of school that year I wore purple from head to toe. I wish I still had those purple Nikes.

Yesterday I received an order I placed with Girl Land. It arrived in a cute little package tied up with a yellow polka dot ribbon. So fun! I bought the hair clip for Arwyn, but if she won’t wear it then it will become mine, all mine! I need something to distract from my ever-expanding belly.

She was absolutely THRILLED with her new hair bob. Can’t you tell? I believe this might be referred to as the “stink eye”. Pouty, Super Pouty, Poutalicious. I have no idea where she gets that look. None whatsoever.
